Lake of the Springs Preserve
Waterslide Fun at Lake of the Springs
By Meredith Walker

Have you ever heard your kids say, “Mom, it’s so hot, I’m melting!”.  If so, take them to the Lake of the Springs Preserve.

They’ve got two water slides there that will help keep the heat off. The big slide is for everyone from young age to old age and is especially appealing to those young at heart. The small slide is for little ones.

Water funThe slides are set up near the picnic area.  Wear a swimsuit and keep a towel nearby because you will get wet.  Just in case you don’t get wet enough, Lake of the Springs staff will be sure to have those big soaker water guns for your family and friends to give you a nice big dose of the cold stuff.  Remember to put on the sunscreen.  Now, if we could just get a volunteer with enough hot air to keep the slides inflated.  If not, don’t worry, they do have electric pumps as a backup.  There is no charge for this fun time.  The slides are available on Saturdays from Memorial Day to Labor Day, usually at 12:00 noon.  Be sure to check the Recreation Schedule to be sure of the times.

In case you want some more water fun, check out the bumper boats, paddleboats, kayaks, canoes, sailboats, rowboats (with and without motors) and patio (pontoon) boats.  For a fees ranging from $5 per hour up to $30 per hour for the patio boats, and $8 per half hour for the bumper boats, you and your family can have a grand old time on the lake. There’s lots of staff scheduled at the boat ramp to help you out in case you haven’t used any of these boats before.

During the summer, every weekend includes water fun of some sort; however, one Theme Weekend is dedicated to getting wet.  They play water volleyball in the lake, break out the super water soakers and water balloons, and set up the water slides.  They even have fishing derbies planned on some weekends.  Check the Recreation Schedule for dates and times.

Lake of the Springs is open year round but most planned activities take place between Memorial and Labor Days.
